Graffiti has the potential to both create positive change as well as detract from a place, a person, and a life. The great thing is when it catches your eye and makes a statement. Sometimes, words on the wall are left by someone trying to make you remember them and their name. Sometimes, they try to make you feel deeply. Sometimes, they are there to simply bring a bit more enjoyment to the writer on that day.
In a women's bathroom in Mason Hall all of the stalls stand coated in layers of graffiti. In my opinion these classify as vandalism. A large, prominent piece has caught my eye. It reads "Why are you here? Perhaps to poop." Personally, I don't see any powerful, "for the good of the cause," reason behind the creation of this piece. The only factor from my perspective that led someone to write this is boredom, or maybe they were trying to give someone a good laugh and brighten up their day. Nonetheless, it definitely was a statement piece, and i sure noticed it.
